Vegas can keep you busy from dawn to dusk and beyond. Match the pace if that’s your style
in a full free day today. Opt for a lazy day by the pool followed by a glitzy show after

the famous resort, or the relaxation of a leisurely drift down the Colorado River flowing

Day 3 - Las Vegas / Fresno
Leaving the lights of Las Vegas behind, our journey today takes us across the state line from
Nevada to California. For a fascinating stop en-route to Fresno, we call at Calico Ghost Town.
The biggest silver strike in the state’s history saw Calico burgeon in its heyday, but the
riches dried up with the silver and the town was abandoned. Re-creating Old West gusto in
organised events, Calico is still a haunted and atmospheric place. From here we continue
through the cowboy landscapes and lush farmlands to reach Fresno in the late afternoon for
an overnight stay.

Day 4 - Fresno / Sonora
From Fresno’s position just south of Yosemite, we enter the world famous Yosemite
National Park for a fantastic day of discovery. Mile upon mile of staggering scenic splendour
will leave you speechless here. Forested slopes look onto a landscape of alpine meadows,
sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls at the valley floor. Framing the picture with
fabulous grandeur, magnificent granite mountains soar to majestic heights above. We’ll
enjoy time at the park until mid afternoon, when we leave for our overnight stay at the
gold-rush town of Sonora. Your evening is at leisure.
Hotel: Inns of California
Day 5 - Sonora / Lake Tahoe
Leaving the Gold Country behind, our route takes us northeast through the High Sierra
Mountains to the lovely landscapes of Lake Tahoe’s shores. High in the mountains and known
as the ‘lake in the sky’, its crystal clear waters stretch twenty two miles
long by twelve miles wide. It’s the perfect mid-tour setting where you can unwind, recharge
your batteries and breathe the cool mountain air, and we’re here for an evening at leisure
and an overnight stay.
Hotel: Quality Inn & Suites
Day 6 - Lake Tahoe / San Francisco
California countryside accompanies us today, as we travel westward toward the ocean for our
stay in ‘the City by the Bay’. Our stop en-route through Gold Country is the state capital,
Sacramento. A beguiling combination, it’s a sophisticated city with a host of theatres,
galleries and museums. Yet relics of its pioneer past abound - in the haunts of the famous
‘49ers’, the Old Sacramento historic park, the railroad museum and steam train rides.
Between the city and the coast, we cross through Napa and Sonoma Valleys, whose south-facing
slopes are cloaked in vineyards, producing the raw material for a wealth of Californian wines.
On arrival in San Francisco for a three night stay, our included orientation tour will show
you highlights such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Twin Peaks and famous Union Square - an invaluable
introduction that gives you your bearings for individual exploration.

Day 7 & 8 - San Francisco
A 46 sq. mile peninsula forms the San Francisco area, combining cosmopolitan and countryside
attractions. There are redwood parks to hike through, ocean beaches to stroll on, superb hopping
centres, fine dining restaurants, opera, ballet, two stunning bridges and four little offshore
islands. Famous landmarks among the city’s forty hills include a thriving Chinatown, the biggest
outside Asia, and pagoda crowned Japan Center with its tranquil tea rooms and fountains.
Fisherman’s Wharf is a must for a fresh seafood meal with views of the bay - and lively
Pier 39 has the added attraction of resident sea lions.
You have two full days at leisure in this friendly, multicultural city, and more than enough to fill them! Experience America’s only mobile National Historic Landmark - the 130 year old cable-car network. Gourmets will be spoilt for choice with a feast of world cuisines. Sightseers could join an excursion to cruise the San Francisco Bay, sailing by Alcatraz Island for a haunting glimpse of the former prison and enjoying fine views back to the city. Shoppers should head for the buzz of Union Square or the boutiques in restored Victorian buildings along Union Street. And when you need a breather, just head for Golden Gate Park, with its lakes and meadows and rhododendron dell. Finally, choose a piano bar for an atmospheric evening.
